Our Story

Our flowers are naturally grown from seed without the use of harmful environmental pesticides and herbicides. Every stem is cultivated with the deepest intent to provide an opportunity to embrace the beauty and miracle of each bloom. Our hope is that our flowers will bring you the same joy that we get from working with them in the field each day.

History

“Enchanted Gardens” was originally a retail nursery and landscape company founded by my father, Don Grashorn, and his partner back in the 1990’s, located in Walker, MI. An avid horticulturalist, my father had a love for growing beyond measure. Though he was in and out of the nursery business throughout his life, he always found a way back to gardening to make ends meet when times were financially tough for our family. We grew flowers on our 4 acre land in Rockford, MI and several summers were spent weeding, watering, and arranging bouquets for the local Rockford farmer’s market. After moving to Caledonia, MI in 2013, it was his dream in the retirement phase of his life to cultivate the land with my mother for berry production Unexpectedly, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July of 2018 and never got that chance. Sadly, he passed away 5 months later.

In 2020, mid-pandemic, Enchanted Gardens was brought back to life as a way to honor my father’s dream to make use of one of earth’s most precious resources, land. Flower production became the focus as this is what my mother and I had always loved to grow and sell the most. The joy and healing powers flowers bring upon blooming is unmatched with any other crop. We hope to cultivate that power to share with you.

The love of flowers and tending to flower gardens was instilled in me at a young age. I spent summers as a child helping my mother and grandmother tend to their rose gardens, and was in awe of several of my great aunt’s perennial gardens, with the towering blue delphiniums planted as a back drop. Their homes were always filled with vases of floating peony blooms or fresh cut daffodils in the spring. It was a goal to have a garden just like theirs one day with flowers that I could cut and bring in the house to enjoy. Another goal was to instill in my own children an awareness and appreciation for the land, and the peace and contentment that comes from spending time outside.

I believe my “green thumb” was in part inherited from my parents (Don and Pam) who were and still are gifted growers and gardeners. My Springs and Summers were often spent barefoot in the dirt hand-watering and weeding rows upon rows of snapdragons, statice, and sunflowers. Early saturday mornings were spent at the Rockford farmer’s market wrapping bunches of fresh bouquets. Looking back, I reflect on these special times with family. The work was hard, but the reward was much greater.

Flowers comfort our souls, lift our spirits and add beauty to life’s most memorable milestones and celebrations. They are truly the best gift mother nature has given us and need not be reserved for only special occasions. Working in the flower field has provided me a place of peace and tranquility like no other. I strive to give my children the same opportunity to embrace nature, dig in the dirt, and take time to smell the roses.
